Cazenovia Central is a K-12 school district with its focus on academic achievement. We are large enough to offer programs that range from Special Education to Advanced Placement. We are, however, small enough so that each and every student is known by the students in his or her grade level, as well as by the entire faculty in his or her school.

Snow Day Information

If snow has fallen heavily during the night and you wonder if schools are open or closed, turn on the radio and listen to one of these stations: WSYR (570 AM), WYYY (94.5 FM), WWTZ (93Q FM), WNDR (1260 AM), WHEN (620 AM), WMCR (Oneida). The TV stations, Channel 3, Channel 5, and Channel 9 will also carry school closings. All broadcasters have the news by 6:00 a.m. and it is on the air by 6:30 a.m.

Please do not call the school or bus garage asking if school is closing early or will be closed. This ties up the lines when we are trying to gather additional information to notify people of school closing or early closing. As soon as any decision is made it will be on all of the above stations. Your cooperation in this matter will be very much appreciated. Listen to your Radio Stations for all news pertaining to school closings and/or early dismissals.

Attendance

All children in New York State of school age who are in proper physical and mental condition are required to attend school.

One of the factors which determines the amount of state aid received by our school district is the record of attendance of the students. Naturally, continuity of instruction is influenced by the regularity of a child's attendance. For these reasons, it is very important that every child attend school, on time, every day school is in session, unless he or she is ill. If a student is ill, please keep him/her at home. His/her attendance in school may infect others and cause more absence.

It is required by state law that every absence, legal or illegal, be explained by a written note from home, signed by the parent, upon the student's return to school. The note should specifically state the date and cause of absence.

Use of School Facilities

All meetings and other uses of school buildings and grounds will be scheduled on a master list kept in the office of the Principal within each building.

Groups may request the use of the facilities by contacting the principal's office of the school with the desired facility. A form will have to be filled out to request the use of school facilities about 2 weeks prior to the date required. A certificate of insurance is required.

Textbook and Library Facilities

Textbooks and library books are provided for pupils in accordance with New York State Education Law. These books remain the property of the school district and they are loaned to pupils with the understanding that the pupil is responsible for the reasonable care and safe return of any text or library book he or she borrows. Lost or damaged books must be paid for by the students to whom they are loaned, and the payment received is applied to replacement cost.

Public Notice of Free Lunch Program

In accordance with the National School Lunch Act required of schools participating in the National Lunch Program, Cazenovia Central School District will continue to provide free lunches for students from needy families. It is required that such notice be sent out to all families of school children in the district.

Application forms for free lunches will be mailed to all families of school children in the district or the forms are available at all the school offices.

Needy families must apply each year for free lunches even if they have participated during the previous school year. Forms should be returned to the school lunch manager as soon as possible. Forms will be made available to students new to the district at the time of registration.
