Step 9: Writing the Bibliography

FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS FOR WRITING THE FINAL

COPY OF YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY

1.

Get all of the bibliography cards which you used while writing

the rough draft. This includes those that you consulted but did

not cite in your paper.

2.

Put your cards in alphabetical order according to the first letter

of the first word that appears on the card (do not count the

words a, an, or the. The first letter will be an author’s name, a

book title, or the title of a magazine article.

3.

On a clean sheet of paper, the title BIBLIOGRAPHY should

be centered and typed in all capital letters at the top of the

page. Since your paper should be word processed or typed,

leave a one inch margin at the top of the page.

4.

Single space each bibliography entry and double space between

the entries. The first line begins at the left margin and

continues to the right margin just like a sentence would. DO

NOT divide the entries into lines as you did on the

bibliography cards. The second and third lines of each entry

are indented FIVE SPACES from the left margin (hint set a tab

for this and then use it throughout your entire bibliography).
