ADD YOUR INTEREST CATCHER

The body of your essay should be completed and revised before
you consider the interest catcher that you will use to introduce your
research project. As you know there are three possible kinds of
interest catchers from which to choose:
1. A thought provoking question
2. An incident (similar to a mini story that is relevant
to your topic)
3. A quotation that is relevant to your topic

Keep in mind the fact that whatever style of interest catcher you
choose, it must have a smooth, logical transition into the thesis
statement. An interest catcher that does not lead into the central idea
for your essay is almost as bad as no interest catcher at all.

WRITE THE EXTENDED SUMMARY

The concluding ideas that you give to your reader are the ones
that will stay with that person when the final word that you have
written has been read. Restate your thesis (EGS) and then tell what
all of the information which you have collected means to the reader.

FILL IN THE FINAL FOOTNOTES

The kind of footnotes which you will be using in this essay are
called IN TEXT DOCUMENTATION. Once you have completed all
of the revisions which you believe are necessary in your rough draft,
you are ready to go back through the essay and write in the final
footnotes before you write the final copy of the research project.
In the rough draft, you drew cut-off lines after using
information from a note card. Inside those cut-off lines are the
bibliography identification number and the page number from which
the information came. Get out your bibliography cards and above the
original footnote entries write the author’s last name, date, and page
25
