Bibliography Cards

The following sample bibliography cards should cover most of

the possible sources that you will use. Should you have trouble,

check with someone:your own English teacher, another English

teacher, the librarian, or one of the library aides. Don’t just try to

fudge it. You will only be creating a bigger problem that will have

to be dealt with sooner or later.

How to Write Your Bibliography Cards

1.

List each source on a separate 3" x 5" card.

2.

List the information carefully and accurately. The card, not
the book or periodical, will be the data you will use later in
writing the endnotes and the final bibliography.

3.

When working with the Vertical File, you may discover that
some bibliographical information is missing. For example,
there may be no author or no page number given. At the
bottom of your card, write "No author" or "No page #". That
way you will remind yourself that this information was not
available, and you will not go looking for it again later when
you write your final bibliography.

4.

When your bibliography cards are complete, put them in a
stack and letter each card in the upper right-hand corner. The
first card will have an "A" on it, the second card will have a
"B" on it, and so on.
