Step 1: Select A Topic

The 9R research paper is expository. Exposition has one main

purpose: to inform or explain. It discusses a single topic in several

paragraphs which develop the thesis statement. If you are having

difficulty choosing a topic, you might want to consult the list

provided by your teacher. Also the librarians are very helpful in

suggesting topics.

Guidelines for selecting a topic:

1.

It should not be too broad or too narrow.

2.

It should be a topic which is of interest to you.

3.

It should be a topic about which you may already know a
little, but about which you do not consider yourself an expert.

4.

It should be a topic which can readily be researched at your
level of reading and comprehension.
