General Information

Paper is Due:Thursday, April 13th or Friday, April 14th depending upon class
schedule.

Length:900 -1100 words

Please make sure that you see your teacher if you sure uncertain about any step in the research
process.

Minimum of three sources:
1.Reference
2.Periodical
3.Book

Beware of three research demons:
1. Illegible handwriting
2. Meaningless phrases
3. Inadequate labeling

I.

Determine Topic
Focus. Working Bibliography. Bibliography reference exactly as it appears in formal
bibliography. (Get it correct here, and you won’t have to do it a second time.) Minimum
number of references.

II.

Gather Data
Skim indexes, chapters, and table of contents. Note taking, ONE THOUGHT PER
CARD. Slug. Exact quote. Summary.

III.

Compose Paper
Focus question. Topic sentence. Shuffle cards. Look for natural division. Outline.

IV.

Writing
Rough draft freely and quickly. Don’t worry (yet) about your introduction,
summary, or transitions. No need to copy long quotes; just tape your card to the paper.
Put /c-2/ notations wherever you will be using a footnote. Remember: You might have
more than one footnote per source.

V.

Revision
Write interest catcher. Prepare summary. Fill in the missing transitions. Strengthen style
(combine sentences). Quotes. Spelling. Punctuations.

VI.

Formal Presentation
Standard size paper. Margins. Title page. Alphabetize cards from working bibliography.
Bibliography. You will be held accountable for typographical errors.

VII.

Final Proof Reading
It might be a good idea to have another person check your final copy for any mistakes.
