Britt Zumpano is a full-time high school counselor. Her office is located on the second floor of the high school in room 246. In the past, Britt's time was split between Burton Street and the high school, but in the 2007-2008 school year she became a full-time member of the high school counseling team. Prior to coming to Cazenovia, Britt worked at Rape Crisis Center with teens and their families, as a middle school counselor at Southern Cayuga Schools, as well as some private practice work. She is also currently an adjunct professor at Cazenovia College in their Human Services Department. Britt's Masters in Counseling from Central Connecticut State University, along with her diverse experience, created an excellent fit for the ADA-PEP program. ADA-PEP, The Alcohol-Drug Abuse Prevention Education Program is a school based substance abuse prevention program that provides school districts with information, education and counseling services at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Established in 1971, ADA-PEP is funded by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and the participating school districts, with the support of the Onondaga County Department of Mental Health. It is the largest school based prevention program in New York State outside of New York City, with 38 full and part time counselors in 17 school districts in Onondaga and Madison counties. Substance abuse is just one of the many things that Britt can address. Any and all topics from school and social stress to family issues can be talked about in this confidential setting. Students often drop in when they are having a difficult day or make arrangements to talk on a more regular basis. School staff, parents, and friends are usually where referrals for counseling come from. Anyone wishing to see Britt or refer someone can use her contact information below to set up a time to talk. In addition to one-on-one student centered counseling, Britt also works with families and groups. She collaborates with the other school counselors and administration to help meet the needs of the high school student body. Informational seminars, community events, and classroom presentations are also a big part of the ADA-PEP program at Cazenovia.
