Good Sports of May
A Good Sport is...
• someone who plays fair
• someone who treats others
with respect
• someone who always gives
100% effort
• someone who is proud of their
accomplishments as well as
those of others
• someone who puts the team

Students at Burton Street
School have had exciting musical
experiences in March and April. The
fourth grade students traveled into
Syracuse to attend the Syracuse
Symphony Orchestra performance
“A Global Celebration.” After the
performance, they wrote about their
trip, or drew pictures, and these are
on display in the back hallway near
the music room.
The third graders enjoyed a
performance by the Empire Opera
Theater of “Little Red’s Most
Unusual Day.” This performance
was possible by funding through the
enrichment committee. Seventeen
students from the third grade were
the opera chorus in the show. They
included: Matthew A., Avery B.,
Jordan B., Julia C., Jennifer E., Julie
G., Julie H., McKensie J., Julia L.,
Tommy L., Corey M., Helen M., Billy
R., Tracy R., Devyn S., J.R. V. and
Matthew W. Two students, Tommy
L. and Julie H., had speaking roles
as well. This performance is part of
their study of opera and the voice.

Bonjour Mes Amis!

Mrs. Porter’s fourth grade class
has been reading The Family Under
the Bridge by Natalie Savage
Carlson which takes place in Paris,
France. The class has learned how
to count in French and Mrs. Lynn
Yerton has visited our class a
number of times to teach the
children some useful phrases. Mrs.
Yerton is learning French also as she
will be going to France in July. Along
with learning about French culture
and geography through videos and
the internet, the children will be
making dioramas about their favorite
part of the book. The dioramas will
depict scenes of Paris including the
Seine River, the Eiffel Tower, the
Louvre and the streets of Paris.
