Parent-Teacher
Conference Day
March 10

The month of March can be long,
with a mix of winter and not enough
spring. We do have something to look
forward to, however. Author/illustrator
Hudson Talbott, who visited us at
Burton Street on January 11, is now
on an extended tour of Kenya. He is
there working with a wildlife
veterinarian hoping to highlight the
necessity of preserving the animals for
future generations with the hope of
telling the storyin a new picture book.
Hudson is emailing us with news and
photos of his adventures. The
correspondences are being shared
over the the morning
announcements, and the photos are
on display in the library. We are thrilled
to be part of Hudson’s African
adventure.
Spring arrives later this month.
May you celebrate its arrival, and enjoy
reading in the new season.

Friday, March 10th, our third
parent/teacher conference day will
be held .

Afternoon kindergarten
students will be dismissed at
10:40 a.m. along with grades
one through four.

Kindergarten students will be
brought home by the bus drivers who
bring them to school each morning
(except for those students going to a
day care program or the babysitter).

THE MORNING
KINDERGARTEN CLASSES
WILL NOT MEET ON THIS
DATE.

BOOK TALK:
Around the World: Who’s
Been Here?
a fiction picture book by

Lindsay Barrett George

What I Have Learned As A
School Nurse

Claire Vacca, a colleague of mine,
wrote the following piece and I have
found it to be very true when working
with children.

Miss Lewis is on her way around
the world, thanks to a Circum-
navigation-of-the-Globe Grant. She
writes to her students throughout her
nine month expedition. From each
location Miss Lewis writes of what she
observes about the wildlife, and ends
with the question: “Who’s been
here?” By turning the page, the
answer is apparent on a colorful two
page spread. Of special interest to
everyone at Burton Street is her visit
to Kenya (just like our friend Hudson
Talbott). She speaks of Amboseli
National Park and viewing Mt..
Kilimanjaro in neighboring Tanzania.
Her admiration for the land and the
wildlife is evident, wherever she
travels. Check out Around the
World: Who’s Been Here?
for an
armchairtour of the world.

Health is wealth.
If a student says it hurts, it does.
Problems, like students, come in all
sizes.
Don’t ever underestimate the power
of caring.
Little hearts can carry big aches.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
Say “Thank you” a lot.
Show concern for everyone who
comes into your office.
Own a good medical dictionary.
Look into the student’s eyes when
they talk to you.
School nursing is not for wimps.
When in doubt, call a colleague.
