Important June Dates
|
 |
Dear Parents,
Believe it or not, we’re almost half
way through the first year of the new
millennium! From cold, winter months
to steamy, June days, the end of the
year is closing in on us.
It’s hard to keep track of students
and teachers this time of year. During
their study of glacier lakes, the 4 th
graders were seen digging huge holes
in the front lawn - thankfully to plant
trees for Arbor Day; others have been
seen on a 12 hour vigil guarding and
incubating chick eggs. Earlier in May,
the whole parking lot was filled with just
first grade parents and families the
night they had their spring fling.
Between “Take Me Out to the Ball
Park” and custom made video slide
shows, I barely had time to enjoy all of
the refreshments! And, I’m still trying to
track down second and third graders.
There are rumors that they can be
found somewhere between Iowa (not
the state, I hope) tests, Morrisville
College and Green Lakes. I’ll let you
know.
In the mean time, I have asked
teachers to start thinking about class
lists for next year and reminded them to
review the criteria we use to set up
classes. As you know, we take our time
creating well balanced groups of
children so that we can promote the
highest possibility of success for all
students. We consider the following
things:
• academic ability (students of
high, middle and low ability)
• chronological age
• male/female ration
• personality and the social/
emotional level of each child
• special services
• learning style of each child
• special needs and remedial
services
• teacher style

three will need physicals for the school
year 2000-01. A letter will be going
home in the next week about this. The
physical form will be enclosed in this
letter. There will be an extensive
health history on the back of our
physical forms for parents to fill out.
The health history is to be filled out
prior to taking your child to the doctors
for his/her physical. Please have your
family doctor fill out the front of the
form, then please return it to the Health
Office at Burton Street. Feel free to
drop the form off at the school office
anytime during the summer or drop it in
the mail c/o the school nurse.
Children who take medication in
school will need to have parent and
doctor permission slips filled out for the
school year 2000-01. The permission
slips currently on file will expire come
June. If your child currently takes
medication at school, you will be
receiving forms to be filled out over the
summer for the following year.
I have some unfortunate news.
Accordiing to the State Education
Department, the governing body who
makes the rules school nurses must
follow, we can no longer administer
