New Faculty Arrive at
Cazenovia
Erich Nieman has joined
the faculty at the Burton Street elementary School
where he is teaching kindergarten. Mr. Nieman
received his bachelor's degree from Cortland State
where he majored in Elementary Education with a
concentration in history. While attending Cortland
he participated on the club lacrosse team. While
attending Fayetteville-Manlius high School he
participated in football, basketball, and lacrosse.
Last year Mr. Nieman was a part time teacher at
Fayetteville-Manlius' Wellwood Middle School.
during the summer he has worked as a greenskeeper
at Rogues Roost Golf Course.
Mr. Nieman developed an interest
in a teaching career after his experiences of
working with children at different summer camps and
through his involvement with coaching youth sport
teams.
"This is a great community and
the enthusiasm of the students is very exciting,"
Mr. Nieman said. "Teaching in the 21 century brings
some great opportunities in terms of teaching
materials and technical advancements."
Sarah Flemming has joined
the high school faculty this year as a member of
the English department where she is currently
teaching 10th grade English, 11th grade honors
English, and 12th grade English. Ms. Flemming is a
graduate of LeMoyne College where she earned a
bachelor's degree in international studies. At
LeMoyne, she was a member of the International
Honor Societies in Education and Social Science.
She was also co-chairperson of the college's Gaelic
Society and earned Dean's List Honors. As a student
at Westhill High School, Ms. Flemming was active in
a variety of clubs and organizations including
chorus, select chorus, band, yearbook editor,
French Club, Key Club, and Teen Institute. Prior to
embarking on her graduate program she interned at
the State Department in Washington in the School of
Foreign Service which is the training center for
foreign service officers before the go overseas to
U.S. embassies.
"I realized I was meant to teach
when every job and professional decision I made
kept leading me back to the classroom," Ms.
Flemming said. "I'm very excited to be teaching in
a small school where I can get to know my students
and colleagues."
An avid reader, Ms. Flemming
also enjoys horse back riding, art, and
music.
Karyn Dixon has also
joined the English department faculty this year
where she is teaching seventh grade, ninth grade,
and 10th grade English. A graduate of Fredonia
State, Ms. Dixon was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi
Education honor Society and the Honors Program.
While attending Westhill High School, she was a
member of the soccer team, school band, and ski
club.
Ms. Dixon completed her student
teaching at at Chautauqua Lake Central School where
she taught at the seventh, 11th, and 12th grade
levels.
"I grew up in a family where
education was highly valued," she said. "I always
had a positive view of education and wonderful
memories and experiences with my own
teachers."
Ms. Dixon enjoys the outdoors in
her spare time while still making time for plenty
of reading.
"Before coming to Cazenovia I
heard nothing but wonderful things about the school
and community and I have found them all to be
true," she said. "The staff has been very friendly
and outgoing. Getting to know my students has also
been very rewarding."
Susan Tresco has joined
the high school faculty as a member of the
counseling department. Mrs. Tresco has a bachelor's
degree in criminal justice from Niagara University,
a masters in counselor education and C.A.S. from
Canisius College and a C.A.S. in educational
administration from Oswego State University. She is
a graduate of Batavia High School where she
participated in soccer, volleyball, basketball, and
softball. Prior to coming to Cazenovia Mrs. Tresco
was the director of guidance at Notre Dame of
Elmira for one year, a school counselor at York
central School for five years, and assistant
principal/athletic director at Tully for 2 years.
She is currently coaching the junior varsity
volleyball team at Cazenovia.
"I decided to return to the
field of school counseling because I missed
assisting students with their journey through high
school and helping them prepare for their futures
after high school," Mrs. Tresco said. "I'm looking
forward to meeting and getting to know the students
and parents at Cazenovia."
Christie-Lee Delanoy has joined
the high school English faculty this year where she
is teaching English 8 and 9 and working in the
writing lab. Ms. Delanoy received a bachelor's
degree in English education from Cortland State and
is currently working on her master's degree in
reading at Cortland as well. As an undergraduate,
she was active in the educational opportunity
program's mentor program and she was the recipient
of the Frasier Strokes Award for Academics and
Community Service at SUNY Cortland. She was also a
member of the executive board of Phi Sigma Sigma,
and a career services intern. Ms. Delanoy is a
graduate of Bishop Maginn High School where she was
a cheerleader, a member of the yearbook staff, the
prom committee, and the foreign language
club.
Prior to coming to Cazenovia Ms.
Delanoy taught for one year at Marcellus high
School. she completed her student teaching at
Vestal Middle School and Onondaga High
School.
"I have always been interested
in literature and writing, especially poetry," Ms.
Delanoy said. "Many members of my family are
teachers so it just seemed natural that i would
follow in those footsteps."
Ms. Delanoy has continued to be
involved with cheerleading and is currently the
junior varsity cheerleading coach at Cazenovia High
School.
Wendy Lynn Rodabaugh has
also joined the high school English department this
year. Ms. Rodabaugh attended Canisius College and
has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in
education from Buffalo State. As an undergraduate
she was in the English Honors Program, the Outdoor
Adventure Club and had an article published in the
English Journal.
She is a graduate of St. Mary's
High School in Lancaster, New York where she was a
member of the Drama Club.
Prior to coming to Cazenovia she
taught for two years at Malone High School and
spent one year at Newark High School. Ms. Rodabaugh
said her interest in a teaching career was spurred
by a third grade teacher she had who made learning
interesting and fun. Her hobbies include reading,
writing, cooking and participating in outdoor
activities.
